CAYGILL PREPARING FOR FIRST HOME RACE IN THREE YEARS WITH 'SPRING IN HIS STEP' AS BLANCPAIN

• Josh Caygill excited by return to Silverstone GP Circuit • Blancpain Endurance Cup rookie eyeing big progress in Rd2 • Yorkshire racer relishing first outing on UK soil in three years

Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit in Northamptonshire will be the venue for Josh Caygill’s first race on ‘home’ soil since 2014 when the second round of the Blancpain Endurance Cup season takes place next weekend, 13th/14th May. Making a positive start to his maiden season in the world’s premier GT endurance racing series last month at ultra-fast Monza in Italy, the 27-year-old from Netherton in Yorkshire is now eyeing major steps forward as the championship makes its annual visit to the UK. Having raced exclusively on the continent over the past couple of years, in the Audi Sport TT Cup, Caygill actually has to cast his mind back to 2014 for his last experience of competition at a British track when he piloted a Volkswagen Scirocco in the Volkswagen Racing Cup. “I am genuinely excited about being back at Silverstone and really looking forward to racing on home soil again – it’s been a while!”, said Caygill, “I’ve got a real spring in my step actually, it’s going to be the first time I’ve raced in the UK for about three years and it’s going to be a new experience for me at Silverstone in such a quick car as the Audi. “I’ve done a lot of preparation, I’m training hard and I’ll be going to Silverstone knowing exactly what to expect with the car, the format of the weekend and the competition. At the first round, absolutely everything was new to me and the whole weekend was a big learning exercise. This time I’m going in to it knowing what we need to do.” Caygill, who shares a Belgian Audi Club Team WRT prepared Audi R8 LMS with Jon Venter and Niki Mayr-Melnhof, got his first season in Blancpain off to a fair start with a top 15 finish in the ‘Pro’ class at Monza off the back of a challenging qualifying session. Importantly completing the three-hour contest, and gaining terrific experience during his 60-minute stint at the end of the race, the former motorcycle racer is now determined to put everything he learned into practice at Silverstone – and hopefully deliver plenty of cheer for his VIP guests. “It’ll be nice to have everyone there next weekend, my family, all of the sponsors and everyone who has supported me over the past three years in Europe”, he commented, “It’s nice they can be a part of it for a change and hopefully we’ll be able to enjoy a trouble-free run and a strong result. “I’m absolutely loving being part of the championship and working with the WRT guys, they’re seriously professional and know everything there is to know about GT racing. I’m working really well with my team-mates Jonno and Nikki, they’re great lads, and we’re absolutely committed to making improvements on Monza.” Blancpain Endurance Cup action at Silverstone begins with the Bronze Test next Friday, 12th May, ahead of Free Practice and Pre-Qualifying on Saturday, 13th May. Final Qualifying will take place at 09.40 on Sunday, 14th May, with the three-hour race timetabled to begin at 14.55. Live streaming will be available HERE
